Tuesday morning, County Executive Marcus Molinaro came to town to tour the new Titan Barrel operation on Route 82 with Ron Hicks, whose brainchild, ThinkDutchess! is a program created to connect and support new business and tourism sites all around Dutchess County. Mary Kay Vrbo, chair of Dutchess Tourism, arrived at the same time, alongside Eoin Wrafter, County Planner, and our own County Legislator, Gregg Pulver. We all converged in the falling snow as owner Chris Kay, who grew up in Millerton, gave us a tour of the facility which builds oak barrels for wine and liquor-making. It was wonderful seeing how the barrels are made, using scrap oak from flooring makers which would otherwise be chipped for mulch and wasted. This is an exciting business just in the beginning stages of operation, and it was thrilling to welcome our government officials to town.
