The swimming lane ropes at the Town Beach were being cut every few nights. Beach personnel were distraught. Rec Director Catherine Prentice grew more frustrated day by day. Town secretary Lori Patricola watched hours of camera footage hoping to catch the culprits, to no avail. Catherine replaced the ropes with heavy-duty nylon. The next night, they were cut again. Town police were called to the scene numerous times, but after careful patrolling of the area, could find no evidence of the perps. Finally, they decided to use infra-red hunting equipment to surveil the site: a stakeout ensued! But that night, no one cut the ropes. A few days went by and then they were cut again. Again, an officer spent the night with his infra-red camera. That night, he caught the vandals red-handed! Or red-pawed, as it were. A family of beavers were arrested on scene and taken in. All can now rest easy in the town of Pine Plains.
